The Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency is engaged in the development, acquisition, and administration of low-rent housing and has administrative responsibility for various other community development programs whose primary purpose is the development of viable urban communities by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment and economic opportunities principally for persons of low and moderate income. The Agency also administers various development projects unrelated to public housing on behalf of the Government.
Nashville Public Television Council, Incorporated provides educational television programs through the cooperation of the Metropolitan Board of Education.
HOSPITAL AUTHORITY
The Hospital Authority was created to operate Metropolitan Nashville General Hospital, a full service medical facility, and Metropolitan Nashville Bordeaux Hospital, a long-term facility. Both hospitals are supported in part by user charges and in part by a subsidy from the Government.
The Electric Power Board exercises exclusive control and management over the electric distribution system, which provides commercial and residential electric power to the Metropolitan Nashville/Davidson County area.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority is responsible for the management and fee structure of the public transportation system.
The Nashville Thermal Transfer Corporation was created for the purpose of burning refuse and using the energy recovered to provide low-cost heating and cooling to various governmental and commercial buildings located in downtown Nashville on a user charge basis.
The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority operates the Nashville International and the John C. Tune Airports.
The Emergency Communications District is engaged in securing and providing more efficient emergency service to the public.
The Industrial Development Board was created for the purpose of assisting private businesses within Davidson County to obtain public financing through the issuance of nontaxable bond issues.
