Recommended Budget Once the Mayor’s Hearings are complete, the Mayor considers the budget requests for the departments and agencies. Given revenue projections for the coming fiscal year and the priorities of the Nashville community, the Mayor prioritizes the budget requests, selecting those requests to be included in his recommended budget. The Office of Management and Budget takes the Mayor’s recommended budget and creates two important documents. The first, the recommended budget ordinance, is the legislation that Council considers that contains Metro Government’s operational budget for the coming fiscal year. The second is the recommended budget book, which provides financial and performance information on each department and agency, including any modifications proposed for the coming fiscal year. The Metro charter requires that the budget ordinance be filed with the Council by May 25 of each year. At that point, the Mayor’s recommended budget goes to the Metro Council for its review and consideration.
