Wava Huddleston, RN, CEN - Nurse Manager

Wava came to MNGH as a student nurse in 1977. After graduating nursing school at the University of Tennessee she continued her career here at General. She has continued her education by completing Critical Care R.N. through U.T. and is also a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), which is a benchmark for accurate testing and assessment of knowledge and critical thinking skills for Emergency Nursing, associated specialties, and its subspecialties.
She has 25 years emergency department experience with 11 of those years as department manager.
An interesting bit of trivia with Wava is that her father, an emergency department physician, helped teach the first paramedic program in the State of Tennessee.
Wayne E. Moore, MD, FACEP - Chief of Emergency Medicine
Dr. Moore graduated medical school through Meharry Medical College and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Howard University in Washington D.C. In 1995 he was asked by the Mayor of Washington to serve as medical director for EMS in the District of Columbia. In 1999 he accepted the position of Chief of Emergency Medicine at MNGH E.D. He also serves as an assistant professor of Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt University.
In 2006 Dr. Moore was awarded Team Health affiliate medical director of the year.
John A. Nixon, MD, FACEP - Assistant Chief of Emergency Medicine
Dr. Nixon graduated medical school from Meharry Medical College , followed by a rotating internship and one year of General Surgery at Hubbard Hospital . He also served a five year residency at Hubbard Hospital in pathology.
Dr. Nixon is a Diplomate to the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is a life Fellow to the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Dr. Nixon further serves as Medical Director for Paramedic education at Volunteer State Community College , and Co-Medical Director for Dickson County EMS .
Ursula Norfleet, MD - Director of Quality
Dr. Norfleet attended medical school at Meharry Medical College and completed her Emergency Medicine Residency at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago Illinois.
During her residency she rotated through Trauma at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
She is board certified in Emergency Medicine. She has published works in the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM).
Carla Vining, RN - Team Leader
Carla transferred to MNGH from Metro Public Health as a student nurse in 1992. A graduate of Tennessee State University Nursing Program, she worked in MED/SURG several years and then in ICU before coming to the Emergency Department.
She has continued her education by completing the Critical Care RN program from the University of Tennessee.
She has served as Nurse Manager for the ICU, ED and Forensics, and ED Team Leader where she serves today.
J. Bruce Ellis, RN, EMT-P - Team Leader
Bruce comes to General with an extensive EMS background. He graduated paramedic school from U.T. Nashville and nursing school from Columbia State Community College. He has continued his education by completing the Critical Care Paramedic and Critical Care R.N. programs through the University of Tennessee. Bruce’s experience has centered around Middle Tennessee: Rutherford County EMS 1981-2003. MTMC 2001-2003. Metro Nashville General Hospital 2003-Present.
