Emergency Department

Scope of Care:

There are 22 total rooms within the Emergency Department at General:
  • 2 negative pressure rooms
  • ENT / Eye room
  • 2 gynecology rooms
  • 3 psychiatric rooms
  • 6 general treatment rooms (2 equipped with pediatric supplies and equipment)
  • 4 minor medical/trauma express care rooms
  • 4 cardiac/major trauma rooms (1 setup for emergent delivery or pediatric code)
The Emergency Department is responsible for:
  • Providing immediate treatment and initiating lifesaving procedures and stabilizing all types of medical, surgical, obstetrical, and pediatric emergencies.
  • Providing emergency care for acute exacerbation of chronic medical conditions
  • Evaluating and treating minor illnesses and injuries
  • Providing care for Metropolitan Nashville employees who sustain job related injuries, illnesses, or body fluid exposures.
  • Providing care for the Tennessee Department of Corrections
  • Providing care and the collection of evidence for pediatric and adult victims of sexual assault.
  • Providing a setting for the education and training of medical students for Vanderbilt University and Meharry Medical College
  • Providing educational opportunities for the training of allied health personnel such as EMT, Paramedic, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Clinicians
