Emergency Department
Scope of Care:
There are 22 total rooms within the Emergency Department at General:
- 2 negative pressure rooms
- ENT / Eye room
- 2 gynecology rooms
- 3 psychiatric rooms
- 6 general treatment rooms (2 equipped with pediatric supplies and equipment)
- 4 minor medical/trauma express care rooms
- 4 cardiac/major trauma rooms (1 setup for emergent delivery or pediatric code)
The Emergency Department is responsible for:
- Providing immediate treatment and initiating lifesaving procedures and stabilizing all types of medical, surgical, obstetrical, and pediatric emergencies.
- Providing emergency care for acute exacerbation of chronic medical conditions
- Evaluating and treating minor illnesses and injuries
- Providing care for Metropolitan Nashville employees who sustain job related injuries, illnesses, or body fluid exposures.
- Providing care for the Tennessee Department of Corrections
- Providing care and the collection of evidence for pediatric and adult victims of sexual assault.
- Providing a setting for the education and training of medical students for Vanderbilt University and Meharry Medical College
- Providing educational opportunities for the training of allied health personnel such as EMT, Paramedic, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Clinicians
