Life can be super if you're 60 (or older) and participate in Nashville General's Super Sixty Plus program. The program, which is free and open to the public, promotes healthy and enjoyable lifestyles for seniors. Each month, members gather at the hospital under the leadership of Nashville General's Community Outreach Director Sandra Hunter. They get free blood pressure checks, eat lunch, play games that provide fun and learning, and hear speakers on topics such as hypertension, memory loss, elderly abuse and diabetes. Plus they meet new friends.
"When you get to be my age, the opportunity to get out and meet new friends is a real treat," said program participant Annie Armstrong.
Like Super Sixty Plus, the hospital's Health In General series
offers free programs on a wide range of topics from fitness
and weight management to breast health awareness. Health
care
professionals conduct the Health In General classes and are
available to answer questions. The classes take place in
the
hospital and in different locations around the community
including Hadley Park Community Center, Madison Towers,
Vinehill Towers,
Edgefield Manor, Parthenon Towers and various churches. Jackson
Street Baptist Church and John Henry Hale Community Center.
The programs are free and open to the public.
In addition, Nashville General participates in numerous health fairs and screenings throughout the community offering health information and services such as blood pressure screenings.
Reaching out to the community we serve-it's all part of Nashville General's commitment to caring for our community.
