Disability Information Office
Full Graphical Version of This Page
The Disability Information Office of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville is part of the ADA Compliance Division. It operates as a liaison between the ADA Compliance Division and the public, answering questions about disabilities and related resources, and maintaining and heightening the public's awareness and understanding of disabilities and people with disabilities.
The Disability Information Office is pleased to be a part of ACCESS NASHVILLE, a cooperative effort by a group composed of people with disabilities, advocates, and concerned citizens. Members of the group assessed certain establishments and attractions in Nashville and have rated them on their accessibility. Just formed in 2004, Access Nashville's first set of ratings can be found here.
Nashville has many large and small organizations that provide various types and levels of service to people with disabilities.
The Disability Information & Referral Phone Line serves to direct callers to those local resources that may be able to assist them with issues related to their disabilities.
The Disability Information & Referral Line number is (615) 862-6492.
It is generally staffed Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
If no one is available to answer, callers may leave voicemail.
Although the Disability Information Office cannot assist individuals with getting disability payments or resolving disability claims through Social Security or any other agency, we offer the following referrals that may be able to assist you:
Social Security Administration Disability Determination and State of Tennessee Disability Determination Service (both use the same phone number)
In Nashville, call (615) 743-7300 or Toll-free (800) 342-1117.
Some people may also be eligible for disability payments from other sources such as pension plans, employer insurance, private insurance, or the Armed Forces. If you might qualify for such payments, you will need to work directly with the appropriate agency.

Relay Service 711
The State of Tennessee provides a relay service at 711 so people who use TTYs can have phone conversations with people who do not have TTYs.
This service is completely confidential, available to anyone 24 hours a day/7 days a week, for calls anywhere in the United States or its territories, at no charge to either person in the conversation.
Dialing 711 works whether or not the person placing the call is using a TTY, since operators who answer use voice and TTY.
Alternate numbers for the relay service
800-848-0298 Person with TTY calling someone without TTY.
800-848-0299 Person without TTY calling someone with TTY.
