We're shining the spotlight on the Justice A. A. Birch Building. Located in downtown Nashville near the west bank of the Cumberland River, construction began on a new courthouse building iformal portrait of Justice Birch in his judicial roben the summer of 2003.

In 2005, the Metro Council passed an ordinance naming the new courthouse for Justice Adolpho A. Birch, Jr., in recognition of his outstanding career of service to the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County. (Read the ordinance and its attachment to learn more about Justice Birch.)

Opening in the summer of 2006, the Justice A. A. Birch Building is a 235,000-square-foot state-of-the-art courthouse facility with more than a dozen courtrooms for Criminal Court and General Sessions Court proceedings, as well as jury selection facilities, administrative offices, and a secured holding facility for inmates that connects the Birch Building with the Criminal Justice Center via a skywalk over 2nd Avenue North.
