Coverage Period

When Coverage Begins
The date coverage begins depends on when you enroll:
  • If you enroll during an annual enrollment period, coverage will begin January 1 of the following year.
  • If you enroll when hired, your supplemental life coverage will start the first day of the month beginning on or after 30 days of continuous employment.
When Coverage Ends
Supplemental life coverage ends when any of the following occur:
  • you discontinue coverage
  • you leave your job at Metro
  • you are no longer an eligible employee or
  • the plan is terminated.
If your coverage ends because you leave your job at Metro, you have the option to port all or part of your supplemental life coverage to an individual policy (see “Portability Rights” later in this section).
