Sick Leave Conversion
Each January, you may, on a 1-for-1 basis, convert a maximum of three sick days to three personal days. To be eligible, you must have at least 24 sick days accrued. The conversion is made at the rate of one sick day for each personal day.
Personal days may be used like vacation, but they must be used the year of the conversion and cannot carry over to the next calendar year. Police Department and Fire Department employees do not convert sick days to personal days. Instead, they automatically receive three personal days per calendar year.
