STD Benefit

Benefit Amounts
STD benefits are based on your weekly earnings at the time you become disabled.
Your STD benefit is 60% of your weekly insured "pre-disability" earnings.*
  • The minimum weekly benefit is $15.
  • The maximum weekly benefit is $2,076.
* Your weekly "pre-disability" earnings are your regular rate of pay excluding overtime, shift differential, and other extra pay. For Fire and Police employees who qualify, education pay is considered part of your regular rate of pay. For information about your pre-disability earnings, contact your departmental Human Resources Coordinator.
If you are able to work at all while disabled, your benefits may be adjusted to account for your earnings. See the insurance carrier for details.
Tax Treatment of Benefits
STD benefits are not subject to income tax. Keep this in mind when deciding whether to draw STD benefits (at 60% of earnings, not taxed) or take paid leave (at full pay, taxed).
