HR and Benefits: Active Employee Handbook

Age Discrimination

The policy of the Metropolitan Government prohibits age-based discrimination against individuals 40 years of age or older. No Appointing Authority shall be allowed to refuse to hire, to discharge, or to otherwise discriminate against any individual with respect to compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment because of an individual's age. Exceptions:

  • There may be differentials in bona fide employee benefit plans.
  • For some areas of work, age may be a bona fide occupational qualification.
