Who Can Apply?
Applications are accepted from legal residents of the United States with the exception of public safety positions (see job announcement for more information).
Where Can I Get An Application?
Applications are available:
Online Application. Applications will no longer be mailed or Facsimiled. Location and hours.
How Do I Apply?
Online Application
Complete an application online by the deadline stated. Applications submitted online must be submitted by midnight of the announced last day for filing applications.

Is There An Application Deadline?
Yes. An application must be submitted by midnight on the closing date. The closing date can be found on the job announcement.
What Is The Selection Process?
Review of Applications
Applications are reviewed by the Department of Human Resources to determine applicant's qualifications. Applicants are notified by e-mail or mail as to whether they meet the requirements of the position; when and where to report for any written tests, or other tests; and their test results.
Applicants who meet the qualification requirements for the position are placed on an eligible list. The eligible list is effective for at least 6 months.
Interview and Selection
Personnel from the department with the vacancy will contact selected candidates on the eligible list to schedule interviews and/or conduct other selection process(es) base on the job related requirements and departmental needs. After selection, all interviewed candidates will be notified of the decision.
Before being hired, the person selected must pass a background screening check, (some positions also require pre-employment drug test); public safety positions require extensive background check and health physical.
Is There A Probationary Period?
Yes. Once hired, a 6-month initial probationary period is in effect. During the probationary period and employee is not entitled to rights under any collective bargaining agreement. A probationary period may also be extended under certain circumstances.
Can I Update My Application?
You can update your permanent application at anytime, however you can not revise information on an application that has been submitted with the exception of contact information. To update contact information, edit your permanent application (i.e., name, address, phone number, etc..) and the new contact information will appear on any previously submitted application.
What Happens If There Are Technical Difficulties With The Online Application System?
During regular business hours (Monday thru Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST): Telephone (615) 862-6680 and we will assist you with the online application process.
Call (615) 862-6680 and leave a voice mail message that includes:
- your full legal name
- your telephone number
- the title of the position you are applying for
- a Brief description of the difficulties you are encountering.
How Do I Obtain A Copy Of My Application?
The NeoGov system will take you through five (5) application process steps:
Step 1 – Job Application
Step 2 – Agency Wide Questionnaire
Step 3 – Supplemental Questionnaire
Step 4 – Confirm Application
Step 5 – Certify and Submit
There are two ways you may obtain a copy of your application during the application process step procedures:
- At the end of each step 1, 2, 3, and 4, take the opportunity to print a copy of your application step before you press “Save & Proceed.”
OR
- Upon completing Step 4 (Confirm Application), we advise you print a copy of your application before you press “Confirm & Send Your Application”. Once you press “Confirm & Send Your Application”, you will not have an opportunity to retrieve a copy of your submitted application.
