City of Lakewood
Lakewood Is Now Part of Metro Government
On March 15, 2011, the voters of Lakewood approved the surrender of the city’s charter to the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
All assets of Lakewood were transferred to Metro effective May 28, 2011.
Metro Council Resolution No. RS2011-1635 provides details of this agreement.
The former City of Lakewood website continues to list helpful information about the transfer of services.
Lakewood Traffic Citations
Prior to the transfer of assets on May 28, 2011, the City Court of Lakewood assessed fines and court costs associated with traffic violations issued by Lakewood police officers. Some of these unpaid fines were reported to the State of Tennessee, resulting in the suspension of numerous driver’s licenses.
On October 4, 2011, the Metro Council passed Resolution No. RS2011-5 (text version) waiving unpaid fines related to these traffic citations. Persons with a suspended driver’s license resulting from unpaid traffic citations issued by the City of Lakewood should print this version of the resolution and take it to the State of Tennessee Department of Safety, Driver License Services, to initiate the process of re-instating their license. The phone number is (615) 741-3954.
