Metro Action Commission Hosts dinner in Honor of National Community Action Month and Local Partnerships

Personal achievement, local volunteers, and partnerships to be highlighted for the first time in agency's history.

May 31, 2002 -Tonight the Metropolitan Action Commission will celebrate its legacy of helping people change their lives during the first Community Action Partnership Dinner. This event wraps up the National Community Action Month, a nationwide occurrence held annually in May.

The awards ceremony and dinner will be held at the Banquet Hall of Nashville, located at 2222 Metro Center Boulevard in Fountain Square beginning at 6:00 p.m.

"This event will allow us to publicly honor and thank our community partners, volunteers, and our corporate and government partners that we feel embody the spirit of hope, which improves our community. Tonight we will spotlight how community action changes lives, " said Cynthia Croom, Executive Director of Metro Action.

Among the list of recipients are:

  • Nathan Best, Metro Action GED Graduate of 2000. Nathan, who recently won a Grammy and a Country Music Award, will perform and be honored for his generous contributions to Metro Action students by awarding academic scholarships.
  • David Manning, Metro Government Finance Director will be honored for his outstanding commitment to and partnership with Metro Action.
  • Attorney Phillip Miller will be honored for his generous donations to the Head Start program and as a volunteer.

Other recipients include Parent Volunteer of the Year awards and special recognition of individuals, corporate partners and government agencies.
