Summer Cooling Financial Assistance Available Immediately Funds could provide assistance to approximately 1,000 households

June 28, 2002 - Davidson County residents that need financial assistance with their summer cooling bills should call the Metropolitan Action Commission at 862-8860 or come by the office, which is located at 1624 5th Avenue North. Applicants who arrive on or before June 28 will be considered immediately for assistance and awarded on the spot if eligible.

Residents who are over 60 years of age, disabled, or have a medical condition that is exacerbated by extreme heat may be eligible for financial assistance with their cooling utility bills.

"Because this program is income based, applicants must supply a copy of the most recent NES bill, a copy of all social security cards of all household members and proof of household income," said Charles Jones, Community Program Director for the Metropolitan Action Commission.

All applicants must fall within the federal income guidelines, which are as follows:

The federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funds the Summer Cooling Assistance program. Metro Action administers this program for Davidson County.
