August 23, 2002 - For the second year, approximately 160 students from David Lipscomb University will gather at the Metropolitan Action Commission for the university’s Volunteer Service Project Day on Monday, August 26 at the Metropolitan Action Commission’s Administration Building, located at 1624 5th Avenue North at 1pm.
“The students will be greeted by Metro Action’s executive director Cynthia Croom, then lead in a special volunteer rally. After the rally, the volunteers will be dispatched to one of 10 Metro Action locations throughout the city,” said Sheila Easley, Volunteer/Intern Coordinator for Metro Action.
Metro Action provides emergency assistance such as financial help with utility and rent payments, GED Preparation, and fan and air conditioners for elderly or disabled citizens. Metro Action also administers the Head Start Program, which serves more than 1,400 children, ages 3-5 years old, in nine centers throughout the city.
“I am excited that the students of David Lipscomb University selected our agency as their service project for the second year. The energy that the students bring is contagious and they are genuinely excited about helping us to help others,” said Croom.
