December 3, 2002 - Parents and staff of the Metropolitan Action Commission’s (MAC) Head Start program will prepare traditional food dishes and share customs and traditions of their country of origin at The Borderless Celebration on Monday, December 9 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The Borderless Celebration will give everyone an opportunity to share and sample recipes from other cultures from around the world and to appreciate their various customs.

“Approximately 164 children in the Head Start program are Hispanic, Kurdish, African, Haitian, Vietnamese, Egyptian, Laotian, or Asian. Our children, parents and staff have a unique opportunity to learn of other cultures as they move through the Head Start program, said Cynthia Croom, Executive Director of MAC.

Over 1,400 children ages 3-5 years are enrolled in MAC’s Head Start program, making it the largest early childhood education provider in Davidson County.

The Borderless Celebration will be held at the Tennessee State University Food Lab, located in the Home Economics/Nursing Building (Humphries Hall), Room 240 on the TSU main campus (3500 John Merritt Boulevard).

Students from TSU’s Family and Consumer Sciences classes will assist the participants with their food presentations.
