Nearly 300 Early Childhood Educators to attend Free Workshop

April 3, 2003 - The Metropolitan Action Commission (MAC) will hold a free child care educators’ workshop on Saturday, April 12 at 9 a.m. at the Nashville Convention Center (601 Commerce Street) for child care providers and early childhood educators.

The MAC sponsored workshop will conclude the three-day session of the Mayor’s 2003 Children and Youth Summit. Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell will address nearly 300 providers at the opening session.

“Many centers must interrupt child care services for the children of working parents when planning required staff trainings. We decided to hold this workshop on Saturday, which will provide an opportunity for all caregivers to participate without causing an interruption in child care during the work week,” said Cynthia Croom, executive director of MAC.

This workshop includes sessions on directing a center, literacy, nutrition, mentor teaching, parent involvement, infant care, and dealing with children with disabilities.

Some sessions will include “make and take” activities that will engage providers in various craft ideas that teachers will be able to take back and recreate in their classrooms.

“I am excited that Nashville has made such a great commitment to quality early childhood education. Parents should feel a sense of assurance and pride in a city that has exemplified an heightened sense of dedication and responsibility as it relates to the development and well-being of young children,” said Croom.

MAC’s Head Start program is the largest provider of early childhood education in Nashville.
