June 16, 2003 - Metro Action (MAC) will honor more than 60 participants on Thursday, June 19 that have successfully passed the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) exam, completed the job-training course or the Adult Basic Education program. The ceremony will be held at the Banquet Hall of Nashville (2222 Metro Center Blvd) at 11:30 a.m.
“The ceremony is similar to a traditional graduation ceremony. Students will receive their certificate wearing caps and gowns,” said Jim Williamson, program coordinator for the MAC Self-Sufficiency program.
Students scoring over 2500 on the GED exam, will be inducted into the commission’s GED Honor Society by Metro Councilwoman Brenda Gilmore and be considered for the Packard Science Scholarship for admission into Tennessee State University or Fisk University.
The program, which has served 179 clients this fiscal year, is open to any low-income Davidson County resident that is seeking to receive their GED or complete job training courses.
Cynthia Williams, weekend Anchor for WSMV’s Channel 4 News, will deliver the keynote address.
