July 30, 2003 - The Metropolitan Action Commission (MAC) provides fans and air conditioners to Davidson County residents who are over the age of 60, disabled or have a medical condition that is exacerbated by extreme heat during the spring and summer months.
Currently, the program is completely out of air conditioners and fans with more than 65 people are on the waiting list.
Earlier this year, the Whirlpool Corporation donated over 100 air conditioners to the program. “Whirlpool and the donations we received from private citizens enabled us to serve 125 people at the beginning of the season,” said Charles Jones, program director of MAC’s Community Programs Division.
The Fan and Air Conditioner Program, funded almost totally by donations, rely heavily on contributions from community groups, corporations and private citizens in order to assist residents during this time of the year.
