Overwhelming interest in new Pre-K standards prompts expansion of free training series

February 17, 2004 - Overwhelming demand for free training in new citywide Pre-K standards has prompted organizers to expand the training session to more than 170 early childhood and childcare professionals. The first in a series of training programs will be offered Wednesday, February 18, 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., at the Downtown Public Library.

Initially, the program was designed to provide training to 100 early childhood and childcare directors at Nashville childcare centers, schools and Head Start programs, but overwhelming demand for the training led organizers to expand the training.

Mayor Bill Purcell announced the free training series at a news conference at Blakemore Children’s Center on February 4. The purpose of the training is to guide early childhood teachers on how to better prepare young children to enter Kindergarten in Metro Schools.

Metropolitan Action Commission, Metro Schools, the Mayor’s Office of Children and Youth, In Touch Davidson, and NAAEYC will sponsor the training.
