Metro Action Hosts Early Childhood Educators in Training of Pre-K Standards Tomorrow

February 18, 2004 - Over 200 Early Childhood Educators will attend the first training of The Borderless Classroom Series on tomorrow (Wednesday, February 18) at the downtown Nashville Public Library. Center directors and lead teachers will get an in-depth review of the new community-wide Pre-Kindergarten standards that were developed by a committee consisting of Metro Action Head Start, Metro Schools and early childhood professionals.

Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell stated at a press event held earlier this month regarding the training, that this was the “first time in our city’s history we have community standards telling us what our children should know in reading and math before they enter Kindergarten.”

The Metropolitan Action Commission, which administers the city’s Head Start program, is providing the free training and teacher materials as part of its annual Borderless Classroom series. The focus of the series, now in its second year, is to provide information for early childhood educators of pre-schoolers and kindergartners.

The opening session begins at 9 a.m in the Conference Center’s Auditorium on the main floor. The library is located at 615 Church Street
