Mayor Purcell thanks Early Childhood Educators for Commitment to Pre-Kindergarten Standards

April 1, 2004 - More than 200 early childhood educators will attend the last session of the Pre-Kindergarten Standards training series on Friday, April 2 at the Nashville Convention Center at 9 a.m.

The training, which is provided free by the Metropolitan Action Commission under its Head Start program’s Borderless Classroom Early Childhood Education Series, will focus on teaching mathematics to pre-kindergarteners.

The teachers will also be engaged in “make and take” activities that they can include in their classrooms.

Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell will join Cynthia Croom, executive director of the Metropolitan Action Commission at the closing session to thank them for attending the training and committing to implementing the standards in their classrooms.

At a press event held last month, Mayor Bill Purcell stated that this was the first time in our city’s history that Nashville has drafted standards, which communicated what children should know in reading and math before they enter Kindergarten.
