MAC to Recognize the Work of Parents and Community Partners at Annual Banquet

May 20, 2004 - On Friday, May 21, the Metropolitan Action Commission (MAC) will host the 3rd Annual Community Action Awards Banquet at the Sheraton Music City Hotel, 777 McGavock Pike.

The event, which starts at 7 pm, will recognize just over 100 Head Start parents, community organizations, volunteers and other agencies, that have partnered with MAC in an effort to strengthen its mission to help people and change lives.

“We have a wide array of honorees which represent dedicated parents of Head Start and ‘foster’ grandparents that volunteer in the Head Start Classrooms,” said Lisa Gallon, Public Information Representative of MAC.

“Many partnerships with other government agencies and community organizations who have aided in our effort to guide our customers to a self-sufficient life will also be recognized.”

MAC Executive Director Cynthia Croom will also award “The Action Award” and “The Executive Director’s” Award to outstanding volunteers that have displayed an exemplary level of commitment to the agency.

Steve Hayslip, morning anchor on the NewsChannel 5 Morning Report, will serve as Master of Ceremony. Vice Mayor Howard Gentry will present a Proclamation from Metro Council to the agency in recognition of 40 years of service to Davidson County.

The agency administers the Head Start program, the county largest pre-school early childhood education program as well as the Community Programs Division which includes programs such as utility assistance for low-income families, the Fan and Air Conditioner program for the elderly and disabled residents and the GED program.
