BUDGET PROCESS STARTS TODAY
Mayor to meet with department directors at 1 p.m.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 3, 2007) -
The annual budget process for fiscal year 2009 begins today with a meeting between Mayor Karl Dean and all of the directors of Metro departments at 1 p.m. at the Downtown Public Library.
“We expect tight financial constraints in the year ahead,” Dean said. “We will have to live within our means and use the resources we have wisely. I am committed to making decisions in the best interest of our taxpayers. And I look forward to working with the Metro Council on this process in the coming months.”
Following the mayor’s remarks, Finance Director Rich Riebeling will present details regarding planning preliminary budgets for the 2009 fiscal year.
“I’ve asked Finance Director Rich Riebeling to give a full picture of where we are this early in the process,” Dean said. “It is my philosophy that departments should be empowered to manage their own budgets. We should all have the common goal of providing our citizens the best services possible in the most efficient way.”
Department directors also will meet with their individuals budget analysts from the Finance Department as part of today’s budget kickoff session.
