MAYOR DEAN ANNOUNCES ECD DIRECTOR AT SMALL BUSINESS SUMMIT
Paul Ney to lead Mayor's Office of Economic and Community Development
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 11, 2007) -
At the Small Business Summit today on the campus of Lipscomb University, Mayor Karl Dean announced Paul Ney will serve as director of the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development.
Ney, a Nashville resident, has been serving in the U.S. Department of Defense as deputy general counsel for the past year. He also served for a year as the principal deputy general counsel and acting general counsel for the U.S. Department of the Navy.
Prior to that, Ney practiced law in Nashville for twenty years in local law firm Trauger Ney & Tuke. He joined the firm in 1985, becoming a partner in 1990.
“The director of Economic and Community Development has to be not only smart, but a believer in the cause of promoting Nashville,” Dean said. “Paul could work in any city in America, but he chose to live here in Nashville and I know he will be a great salesman for our city.”
After graduating from Cornell University, Ney entered the dual degree program at Vanderbilt University. In 1984, he received an M.B.A. from the Owen Graduate School of Management and a J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School, where he was an Andrew Ewing Scholar and member of the Order of the Coif.
His myriad professional and community activities include serving as president of the Nashville Bar Association in 1998, an adjunct professor of law at Vanderbilt Law School, president of Dismas Inc., and a board member of the Community Resource Center, the Metro Sports Authority, and the Tennessee Justice Center.
Before joining the Department of the Navy, he also was a member of Leadership Nashville, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Tennessee chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business.
