COUNCIL MEMBER APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (December 3, 2008) -

Mayor Karl Dean announced today that Keith Durbin has been appointed director of Information Technology Services.

Durbin currently works as an IT executive with HCA Inc. and serves as the Metro Council member for district 18. He will resign his Council seat, which he won in the August 2007 general election, immediately prior to beginning work at ITS on Jan. 5.

“Keith is not only an expert in information technology, and a Council member that my administration has turned to as we’ve faced IT challenges during the past year, he is also a public servant and will bring to this job the highest level of experience from the private sector and a passion for serving this city and its citizens,” Dean said.

Durbin moved to Nashville in 1996 from his hometown of Paducah, Ky., where he owned Computer Learning & Resources Center, a company that provided training, classroom management and technology consulting services. After managing software development for several companies in Nashville, he joined HCA in 2002. He currently manages a department of analysts working to implement software that will allow physicians to access patient records electronically.

Durbin graduated with honors from Emory University with a bachelor of business administration degree, which led to his first job with Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in a comptroller development program. At EDS, Durbin was certified as a management accountant, though he no longer maintains the certification.

Durbin previously served five terms as the president of Belmont-Hillsboro Neighbors Inc. He is currently on the board and the treasurer of the Metro Action Commission, as well as the boards of Historic Nashville Inc. and Belmont-Hillsboro Neighbors.
