RESOLUTION NO. R98-1270
A resolution recognizing Ms. Jessica L. Tate on receiving the 1998 Sallie Mae First Class Teacher Award for the State of Tennessee.
WHEREAS, Ms. Jessica L. Tate, one of Middle Tennessee's best educators, was recently named the recipient of the "1998 Sallie Mae First Class Teacher Award" for the State of Tennessee by the American Association of School Administrators; and
WHEREAS, this annual award is sponsored by Sallie Mae, Incorporated of Reston, Virginia, and it is presented to one winner from each state who is a first-year teacher selected from nominations based on the first-class evaluation submitted from the school system ; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Tate will travel to Washington, D.C. September 17-20, 1998, as the guest of Sallie Mae, Incorporated, where she will join 50 other winning teachers from across the United States to share her first-year teaching experience in our nations capital; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Tate graduated Magna Cum Laude from Michigan Christian College in Rochester Hills, Michigan, where she received an Associate of Arts degree in 1992, and she received a Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1995 from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Tate is presently in her second year as a Music Specialist at Crieve Hall Elementary School, where she oversees the music program for the entire student body; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of her outstanding first year of teaching, Ms. Tate will receive a $1,500 award and personalized memento and, during her visit to Washington, she will visit her Congressional representatives, participate in an education symposium, and visit a few of Washingtons well-known landmarks; and
WHEREAS, Sallie Mae, Incorporated is engaged in financing higher education and is especially committed to the nations education system, seeking to support and increase awareness of those individuals who are dedicated to teaching excellence; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Ms. Jessica L. Tate on receiving the 1998 Sallie Mae First Class Teacher Award for the State of Tennessee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Ms. Jessica L. Tate on receiving the 1998 Sallie Mae First Class Teacher Award for the State of Tennessee
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a certificate to be presented to Ms. Jessica L. Tate.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
