RESOLUTION NO. R98-993
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DAVIDSON COUNTY DELEGATION TO THE TENNESSEE STATE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO INTRODUCE AND HAVE ADOPTED LEGISLATION AUTHORIZING THE METROPOLITAN DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND SEWER SERVICES TO PARTICIPATE WITH THE METROPOLITAN DEVELOPMENT HOUSING AGENCY TO PROVIDE CERTAIN SERVICES TO ELIGIBLE LOW AND MODERATE INCOME PERSONS.
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Department of Water and Sewer Services (Metro Water Services) has begun to discontinue water and sewer discounts to charitable organizations; and
WHEREAS, Metro Water Services wishes to use the revenue saved from the charitable discount repeal to participate in programs operated by the Metropolitan Development Housing Agency (MDHA) which assist eligible low and moderate income persons by providing leak repairs, line replacements, service connections and other assistance; and
WHERAS, such assistance by Metro Water Services requires statutory enabling authority; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council desires that the necessary amendment be made to state law to authorize Metro Water Services to provide assistance to low and moderate income persons by participating in certain MDHA programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee State General Assembly to have introduced and adopted legislation that would authorize the Metropolitan Department of Water and Sewer Services to participate in programs operated by the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency and provide assistance to eligible low and moderate income persons in the form of leak repairs, line replacements, service connections and other assistance.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee State General Assembly.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
