RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-614
A resolution proclaiming May 2001, as Children's Mental Health Awareness Month
WHEREAS, Children's Mental Health Awareness Month is recognized each year to promote and raise awareness of children's mental health issues; and
WHEREAS, the sad reality is that one in five children have a diagnosable mental, emotional or behavioral disorder, with over 70% of children not receiving appropriate mental health services; and
WHEREAS, the Middle Tennessee Celebration was held on Saturday, May 12, 2001, at the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere, with this years theme, "Embracing Our Differences," promoting positive acceptance of an individual's uniqueness; and
WHEREAS, Tennessee Voices for Children Inc. is a statewide, not-for-profit, organization whose goals are to speak out, improve and expand services related to the emotional and behavioral well-being of Tennessee 's children; and
WHEREAS, the Tennessee Voices for Children Inc., monitors children's services in Tennessee, promotes children's services and system changes to enhance well-being of children, offers training and technical assistance, educates and mobilizes citizens of Tennessee to remove barriers negatively affecting services for children, and hosts the Annual Families Conference, along with numerous other programs; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that Metropolitan Government and its residents focus their attention on problems of mental health, and participate in the Green Ribbon Campaign by wearing a Green Ribbon every day this month, which signifies new life, new growth, and new beginnings. By wearing the ribbon it helps raise public awareness towards bettering the lives of children with serious emotional disorders and shows our support of these children and their families.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming May 2001, as Children's Mental Health Awareness Month.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to Charlotte Bryson, Executive Director of Tennessee Voices for Children, Incorporated.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
