RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-725
A resolution recognizing John Hillin as Tennessee's Handwriting Champion.
WHEREAS, sixth-grader John Hillin of David Lipscomb Middle School is the Tennessee Handwriting Champion for 2001; and
WHEREAS, this bright young student showcased his handwriting talents by winning first at his respective school contest; then was afforded the opportunity to test his skills against other winners for the State competition; and
WHEREAS, John Hillin went on to be named State champion in the National Handwriting Contest; and
WHEREAS, for the contest he was asked to write in cursive the sentence - "When I write for others, I should write as legibly as possible, that way people can read my writing," along with "I attend David Lipscomb Middle School," and a signature; and
WHEREAS, John Hillin, represented Tennessee for the title at the National Grade Level Champion and Grand National Champion; and
WHEREAS, John Hillin perfected his penmanship with hours of practice with guidance from handwriting teacher Brenda Forehand throughout the school year; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize this sixth grader's hard work and extra effort in preparing and entering the National Handwriting Contest.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing John Hillin as Tennessee's Handwriting Champion.
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Staff Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to John Hillin.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
