RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-742
A resolution requesting the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission to work especially with Native Americans by providing assistance, including education, government and social assistance.
WHEREAS, it is the mission of the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission to protect the personal dignity of all people; and
WHEREAS, the State of Tennessee recently abolished the Commission on Indian Affairs; and
WHEREAS, there are a number of Native Americans within the area of the Metropolitan Government; and
WHEREAS, although traditionally the primary focus of the Human Relations Commission has been on assisting minorities such as African Americans and Hispanics, it is fitting and proper that there efforts include taking steps to assist Native Americans.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Metropolitan Human Relations Commission to work especially with Native Americans by providing assistance, including education, government and social assistance.
SECTION 3. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the Executive Director of the Human Relations Commission and to the members of the Human Relations Commission.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
