RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-767
A resolution proclaiming Wednesday, October 10, 2001, as "Senior Expo 2001 Day".
WHEREAS, the senior population in the Greater Nashville region has grown, and will continue to grow, at a rate approaching two percent per year; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Nashville Regional Council Area Agency on Aging and Disability, and the United Way of Nashville recognized the need to portray a more positive image of aging by presenting an annual celebration called Senior Expo; and
WHEREAS, the first Senior Expo was held on October 11, 2000, at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Nashville and attracted more the 1700 persons from the Greater Nashville area; and
WHEREAS, the objective of the Senior Expo is to inform and provide seniors of the services and goods afforded to them; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Councilman-at-Large Howard Gentry Jr., was the 2000 Chairman and continues to serve as Chairman for 2001 and his mother, Mrs. Carrie Gentry, as 2000 Co-Chairperson of the Senior Expo Steering Committee; and
WHEREAS, Senior Expo 2001 will be held October 10, 2001, at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Nashville; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize "Senior Expo 2001 Day".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as proclaiming Wednesday, October 10, 2001, as "Senior Expo 2001 Day".
SECTION 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Ernestine Bowers, President of the Greater Nashville Regional Council Area Agency on Aging and Disability and Mark Desmond, President of United Way.
SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
