RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-771
A resolution providing for a $15,000.00 donation to the American Red Cross for disaster relief, and appropriating said amount from the Contingency Account of the General Services District.
WHEREAS, as a result of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, extensive damages and loss of life resulted in the area of the World Trade Center in New York City, in the area of the Pentagon in Washington, DC, and in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, numerous corporations, cities, civic groups, and other organizations have assisted by contributing great sums of money, as well as giving blood and other assistance to assist in rescue efforts and to provide assistance to victims and their families; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Government make a contribution to this effort as an expression of our sympathy to the victims and their families, and gratitude to rescue workers; and
WHEREAS, the American Red Cross is a recognized, not-for-profit organization that meets the qualifications to receive a grant from the Metropolitan Government for its programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. There is hereby appropriated the sum of $15,000.00 from the Contingency Account of the General Services District to the American Red Cross for disaster relief to be used in their efforts relating to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack in the United States.
SECTION 2. That the Director of Finance is directed to prepare the appropriate grant or contract as deemed necessary by the Director of Law and the Director of Finance to accomplish the purpose of this donation.
SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
