RESOLUTION NO. RS2001-865
A resolution requesting the U.S. General Services Administration to keep the U.S. Courthouse within the area of the Central Business District of Downtown Nashville.
WHEREAS, the General Services Administration is taking steps to acquire land and begin construction of a new U.S. Courthouse in Nashville, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, the current federal courthouse does not have adequate room to house necessary facilities; and
WHEREAS, Downtown Nashville is centrally located with convenient access to three major interstates, mass transit facilities, and houses the State Capitol, the Metro Courthouse, and many other government offices; and
WHEREAS, it would be fitting and proper that a new federal courthouse be located in the Central Business District of Downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
SECTION 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the U.S. General Services Administration to keep the U. S. Courthouse within the area of the Central Business District of Downtown Nashville.
SECTION 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the U.S. General Services Administration, to Senators Fred Thompson and Bill Frist, and to Congressman Bob Clement.
SECTION 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
