RESOLUTION NO. RS2003-51
A resolution recognizing Chuck Ross.
WHEREAS, on Thursday night, November 6, 2003, Chuck Ross, Lipscomb University’s No. 1 sports fan and one of Metro Nashville’s most recognizable sports personalities, will be honored at “The Chuck Roast” at Allen Arena on the Lipscomb University campus;
WHEREAS, Chuck Ross, is known to every member of the sports media in the Metro Nashville area through personal contact and almost daily telephone calls; and
WHEREAS, Lipscomb’s basketball teams seldom take the court without an enthusiastic pre-game speech from Chuck that always ends with the phrase “Beat’em and Beat’em Bad”; and
WHEREAS, the stories about Chuck and his life are so legendary that a book has been written about him by longtime Tennessean sportswriter Jimmy Davy called “Beat’em and Beat’em Bad”; and
WHEREAS, fans of the Nashville Sounds Minor League Baseball Team, and fans of Lipscomb University and David Lipscomb High School, know Chuck and his late mother who accompanied him to most games;
WHEREAS, Chuck will be honored by coaches and media members on this joyous night of celebration of what he means to everyone who knows him; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize Chuck Ross for his love of sports, the adoration he receives from those in the sports community and for his daily words of encouragement to athletes and coaches on all levels of competition,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVBRNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY;
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing Chuck Ross.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Chuck Ross.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption,
the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County
