RESOLUTION NO. RS2006-1395
A resolution recognizing the Davidson County Sheriff's Office Sober Ride program.
WHEREAS, since 1983, the Davidson County Sheriff's Office has sponsored Sober Ride, a service that provides free, safe, and sober rides to anyone in Davidson County too intoxicated to drive; and
WHEREAS, since the inspection of the Sober Ride Program, there has only been one alcohol related death in those 23 years; and
WHEREAS, Sober Ride is a Nashville tradition and service that residents of Davidson County have come to depend on New Year's Eve and St. Patrick's Day; and
WHEREAS, each year the Davidson County Sheriff's Office sponsors the Sober Ride program to keep impaired drivers off the roads to ensure they arrive home safely; and
WHEREAS, in 2005, the Sheriff's Office employees and many volunteers gave approximately 2,386 free, safe, and sober rides in Davidson County; and
WHEREAS, not only are drivers needed but volunteers work answering phones, verifying calls, and mapping pick up locations; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognizes the Sober Ride program, as well as the numerous persons (many of whom work for the Sheriff's Office) who have volunteered to work this program, free of charge to the taxpayers of Davidson County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the Davidson County Sheriff's Office Sober Ride program.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Sheriff Daron Hall on behalf of the Sober Ride Committee.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
