RESOLUTION NO. RS2007-1982
A resolution requesting the Mayor, the Police Department, the Department of Public Works, and the Traffic and Parking Commission to collaborate and develop a plan to address the most dangerous intersections in Nashville.
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department maintains statistical data regarding the location of accidents within the area of the Metropolitan Government; and
WHEREAS, in the past, the Department of Public Works has analyzed the data provided by the Police Department to create a list of the most dangerous intersections in Nashville; and
WHEREAS, while the safety of some intersections could be improved through greater enforcement efforts others may require substantial engineering and/or infrastructure improvements; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department has made a concerted effort over the past several years to increase the number of citations for moving violations to make Nashville a safer city; and
WHEREAS, the 2006-2007 Mayor’s Capital Spending Plan, funded through general obligation bonds issued pursuant to Resolution No. RS2006-1329, included $41,250,000 for roadway and signalization improvements; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the various Metro agencies responsible for law enforcement and infrastructure improvements work collaboratively to develop a plan to address and improve the most dangerous intersections in Nashville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Mayor, the Police Department, the Department of Public Works, and the Traffic and Parking Commission to collaborate and develop a plan to address the most dangerous intersections in Nashville.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Mayor Bill Purcell, to Police Chief Ronal Serpas, to Public Works Director Billy Lynch, and to each member of the Metropolitan Traffic and Parking Commission.
Section 3. The Mayor, the Police Department, the Department of Public Works, and the Traffic and Parking Commission are further requested to present an action plan to the Council Public Safety and Traffic and Parking Committees within ninety (90) days after the adoption of this Resolution, with a copy of the plan delivered to all Members of Council.
Section 4. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

Amendment No. 1
Resolution No. RS2007-1982
I move to amend Resolution No. RS2007-1982 by deleting Section 3 in its entirety and substituting in lieu thereof the following new Section 3:
“Section 3. The Police Department is further requested to provide a copy of an action plan for addressing the most dangerous intersections in Nashville to the Council Public Safety Committee at the time the regular quarterly report is submitted by the Department.”
