RESOLUTION NO. RS2013-667

A resolution requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation to widen State Route 11 (Nolensville Road) between Burkitt Road and Old Hickory Boulevard in order to relieve roadway congestion, improve safety, and accommodate expected growth.

WHEREAS, the Tennessee Department of Transportation is responsible for the construction and maintenance of state roads and highways; and

WHEREAS, in recent years, the number of vehicles traveling on State Route 11 (Nolensville Road) has increased significantly due to population increases in the area; and

WHEREAS, Nolensville Road is one of the busiest thoroughfares in Metropolitan Nashville - Davidson County; and

WHEREAS, an amendment to House Bill No. 0507 has been filed by Representative Jason Powell to appropriate $17,500,000 in non-recurring funds to the Tennessee Department of Transportation for the purpose of carrying out the right-of-way acquisition phase of a road improvement project for the 4.4-mile section of Nolensville Road from south of Burkitt Road in Williamson County to south of Old Hickory Boulevard in Davidson County in order to address congestion, improve safety, and accommodate area growth; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the safety and welfare of the residents of Davidson County that this portion of Nolensville Road be widened, and the Metropolitan Council desires to go on record as supporting this road improvement project.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as requesting the Tennessee Department of Transportation to widen State Route 11 (Nolensville Road) between Burkitt Road and Old Hickory Boulevard in order to relieve roadway congestion, improve safety, and accommodate expected growth.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer and to each member of the Davidson County Delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly.

Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
