Land Use & Design Study on the Trolley Barns at Rolling Mill Hill
The Rolling Mill Hill master plan viewed the trolley barns as “flex space” on the site, potentially lending themselves to a variety of uses. MDHA selected three firms with experience in adaptive reuse of historic structures – Allard Ward Architects, Everton Oglesby Architects, and Gresham, Smith & Partners – to provide potential land use and urban design ideas on the trolley barns at Rolling Mill Hill. On April 17, 2008, each firm presented visual renderings of proposed usage and design of the trolley barns and adjacent land. Designs include basic site plans showing how vehicular and pedestrian traffic will access the site, how buildings will be accessed, and how they will function and interact. Each firm’s presentation is available below.
