Second Avenue
Second Avenue is a Historic Zoning Overlay district. Any new construction including additions, demolitions, relocation or renovation of structures is reviewed by the MHZC prior to beginning the project.
Neighborhood Information
Second Avenue became a Historic Zoning Overlay district March 1997. It was originally named Market Street until 1903 when it was renamed Second Avenue. Second Avenue is Nashville’s oldest downtown district and was the commercial heart of the city in the latter half of the nineteenth century. The district was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in February 1972. Architectural styles in the district include Victorian Commercial and Warehouse facades. The area contains approximately 50 properties.
