Metro Moving to Biweekly Pay Schedule
New Year will Mark Transfer to New Payroll System
Beginning January 7, Metro will move to a biweekly payroll schedule across most departments. Employees will receive their paychecks every other Friday under the new system. Currently, Metro issues paychecks on the seventh and twenty-second days of each month.
The new schedule will pay employees twenty-six times per year rather than twenty-four in the current semi-monthly cycle. The new payroll system seeks to benefit both to Metro and its employees by producing a cost savings for the city and eliminating “floating paydays” for employees.
The Payroll and Human Resources departments recently completed a series of workshops for employees providing the 2005 payday schedule and answers to questions on budgeting, tax withholding, and payroll deductions. Employees are encouraged to review their personal budgets and begin adjusting for the change now.
A 2005 payday schedule and FAQ will be placed on the Nashville IM website for questions regarding benefits deductions, the “extra checks” in April and September 2005, how withholding taxes are affected, etc. Specific questions not addressed in the FAQ can be emailed to biweekly.questions@nashville.gov or you can call 880-1000.
There will be no change to Metro’s Police and Fire departments payroll. Both will remain on their current semi-monthly schedule.
