Howard School Office Building Reopens Tuesday
September 19, 2005 -- The Metro Public Health Department has approved reopening the first and second floors of the Howard School Office Building on Tuesday. Public access will be allowed through the front and rear entrances of the building, located at 700 Second Avenue South.
Health Department officials monitored the clean up process following the collapse of a sewer line Thursday evening that resulted in storm water and sewage backing up into the building.
Part of the clean up process includes having cleaned and disinfected areas in the building three times. To help ensure proper clean up, HEPA filters are being used as part of the cleaning process.
All sewage and storm water has been removed from the building and the clean up and disinfecting process has been completed.
The basement of the building will remain closed for a minimum of two weeks while carpeting and tile is replaced.
