Nashville takes the lead and implements Tennessee’s first Senior Citizen Property Tax Freeze

Mayor Bill Purcell submitted legislation allowing Davidson County to become the first in Tennessee to opt into the newly created Senior Citizens Property Tax Freeze and the Metro Council overwhelmingly approved the legislation on Tuesday, July 17.

The proposal was made possible by a recently approved amendment to the Tennessee Constitution allowing counties to offer tax relief. The Tennessee General Assembly put together the framework for the plan with input from Mayor Purcell, and established an income limit for seniors in Davidson County of $34,260.  The implementation means that seniors with incomes below that limit will have no fear of future property tax increases.
