Homeland Security Terrorism Preparedness

Fear is often the primary weapon behind acts of terrorism. Terrorists seek to disrupt our lives by doing things most people consider unthinkable. Therefore, to keep terrorists from being successful, we must condition ourselves to expect the unexpected.

The events of 9-11 taught all of us that terrorists can strike anywhere, and at anytime. The best defense is vigilance and awareness. Here are some ways to make your surroundings more safe and secure:

Physical Security

  • Secure locks and fences
  • Add lighting around homes and businesses
  • Install alarms and other "conventional" security features

Personal Security

  • Carry a cell phone
  • Keep car doors locked while inside the vehicle
  • Travel with others, in well-lit areas, and on well-traveled roads
  • Guard personal information
  • Report suspicious activity to police
