Metro's Emergency Operations Center to Partially Activate at Noon

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Metro’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has called for a partial activation of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) effective 12 p.m. Monday in anticipation of a severe weather system that is expected to bring strong storms capable of producing damaging straight line winds, heavy rain, large hail and possibly isolated tornadoes.
The National Weather Service and Storm Prediction Center have placed Metro Nashville within a moderate risk area for severe thunderstorms today and into this evening. A wind advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. for sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph, and gusts as high as 40 mph. Metro OEM staff continues to monitor the approaching weather system with assistance from the National Weather Service.
Residents are reminded that April is one of the peak months for tornadoes in Tennessee. Tornado watches and warnings should not be taken lightly.
Agencies activated at Metro’s EOC are: Office of Emergency Management, Police, Fire, EMS, Public Works, Metro Water Services, Emergency Communications, Information Technology Services, Metro Planning/GIS, Metro Public Schools, Metro Transit Authority and Nashville Electric Service. Representatives from the National Weather Service will also staff the EOC.
Once activated, updated information will be released from the Emergency Operations Center as it becomes available.
