Evening Update From Metro's Emergency Operations Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 27, 2011

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Metro’s Emergency Operations Center and field response teams continue to keep a close watch on severe weather moving through the Nashville area and local tributaries for flash flooding. All tributaries are currently below flood stage.

Along the Harpeth River in Bellevue, eight homes in the Boone Trace subdivision (Settlers and Canoe Court) had sandbags positioned nearby as a precautionary measure. The Harpeth River is expected to peak at flood stage early Thursday morning and begin to recede. Flood stage should not affect structures in the Bellevue area.

Whites Creek in Bordeaux has experienced slow increases during the afternoon but is expected to begin receding at this time. Metro Police officers will continue their regular patrols in this area throughout the evening.

Mill Creek in the Antioch, Nolensville Road and Woodbine areas is expected to remain below flood stage. Mill Creek has experienced gradual increases during the afternoon but present projections call for water levels to decrease into the evening hours.

Seven resource staging areas that were established along area tributaries as a precautionary measure will remain in place until midnight. Resource staging areas are at the following locations:

  • Whites Creek- Whites Creek High School
  • Whites Creek- West Hamilton Road and Clarksville Pike
  • Seven Mile Creek – Whitfield Park (Edmondson Pike)
  • Mill Creek – Antioch Community Center (Blue Hole Road)
