WPNC Junior Naturalist
2009 Jr. Naturalist - Reptiles Rule!
Reptiles such as snakes, lizards, and turtles are some of the most interesting and amazingly diverse creatures that inhabit Earth. Pre-dating humans by approximately 295 million years, they have proven to be both a highly adaptable and successful group of animals who today occupy nearly every corner of the globe. Youth between the ages of 6 and 12 are invited to join us on Tuesday, March 17th, for a day of fun and activities as we kick-off this year’s Junior Naturalist program.
Hey, kids! If you’re between the ages of 6 and 12, you can become a Warner Parks Jr. Naturalist! For millions of years, reptiles ranging in size from small tree dwellers to monstrous dinosaurs ruled the world. Except for the crocodilians, all of the ruling reptiles are now extinct. Some species, such as the turtle, exist today in the same form as they did over 200 million years ago. Today’s reptiles play critical roles in ecosystems everywhere, including the snakes, lizards, and turtles found here in the Warner Parks. Spring is a great time of year to get outside to play and to learn about the unusual world in which we live. Whether you are pursuing this year’s Junior Naturalist patch or just want to enjoy a day at the park, we encourage you to creep, crawl, or slither your way over to the Nature Center this season and join us as we celebrate the beauty of nature in all its forms.
