Demonbreun Street Viaduct

After spanning Nashville’s historic railroad gulch for nearly 75 years, the aging and badly deteriorated Demonbreun Street Viaduct was closed to traffic in July 2004. Metro Public Works and the Tennessee Department of Transportation immediately began working on plans to replace the old structure with a new one in the same location. Demolition of the old viaduct was completed in July 2005. A contract to construct the new Demonbreun Viaduct was awarded in November 2005, and work began on December 28, 2005. On October 25, 2006, the new Demonbreun Street Viaduct was opened to traffic, having been completed five months ahead of schedule.
