Hillwood Neighborhood Traffic Calming Plan
Metro Public Works has developed and designed a traffic calming plan for the Hillwood Neighborhood of Davidson County. MPW coordinated with neighborhood residents to determine the most desirable locations for traffic calming measures and the most appropriate traffic management treatments. The plan includes a combination of speed limit pavement markings, permanent solar-powered speed radar signs, speed cushions, chicanes, neighborhood traffic calming signs, and intersection traffic control treatments. The project also includes improving a pedestrian path along Davidson Road. This project is funded by special funds set aside by the Nashville West development for traffic calming in the Hillwood Neighborhood. Construction on the project is underway and expected to be completed in Fall 2011.
An adjacent neighborhood project, funded by a partnership between Fed Ex, the National Football League and Safe Kids USA, will also be conducted to provide pedestrian safety improvements and better connectivity for H.G. Hill Middle School. The improvements include four new crosswalks, completion of the sidewalk connection to the school, six new school warning signs, and two upgraded overhead school flashers. The school zone will be extended to the western school property boundary by relocating the overhead school flasher on Davidson Road to the west side of Sedberry Road.
